A summit meeting between United States president Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin was held on August 15, 2025, at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. That meeting was followed a couple of days later by another at the White House attended by Ukrainian President Zelenski and a number of EU leaders. Now it appears the next step is a trilateral meeting between Trump, Putin, and Zelenski to try to hammer out a deal to end the war in Ukraine. What are the stumbling blocks, and is there any real chance at this point that the “trilat” could result in a sustainable peace?
