December, 2024. The Russian surveillance team barely had time to register the movement. Just a ripple at first, a disturbance in the dark water below the oil rig. Then, it appeared, a black shape, low and fast, slicing through the waves. The faint hum of its electric motor was lost to the wind. It wasn’t a warship. It wasn’t a submarine. The platform’s floodlights snapped on, their beams slicing across the water in search of the intruder.
