Watch a new Virginia-class attack submarine arrive in Port Canaveral on Veteran’s Day, under escort of the Coast Guard. Believed to be USS Iowa per WarshipCam on X. USS Iowa (SSN-797) is the newest Virginia-class attack submarine to be commissioned into naval service. The vessel was commissioned into the US Navy on April 5th, 2025. It is the fourth vessel named after the State of Iowa, previously being the famous Iowa-class battleship decommissioned on October 26th, 1990. Submarines frequently visit the Naval Ordinance Test Unit (NOTU) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The area is famous for launching rockets, such as New Glenn seen in this video, and also has a vast history of missile testing for the navy.
