#usnavy #ships #abandonedplaces What happens to the US Navy’s nuclear powered submarines after they retire? In this documentary video we take you inside the Mothball Fleet of ghost ships that have been placed in long term storage. Eventually they will be stricken from the US Navy’s inventory. But first the nuclear reactors aboard these submarines must be deactivated in a carefully controlled process. These submarines patrolled the seas for the US Navy for many years. They are now being replaced by the newer Virginia Class submarines. Learn about the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard near Bremerton Washington, and the Hanford site, and Trench 94, where retired US Navy submarines’ nuclear cores are buried. This naval history of ships is inspired by Drachinifel and Sub Brief.
