BAE Systems pitching Bofors 40Mk4 naval gun system to the US Navy

BAE Systems was showcasing the Bofors 40Mk4 naval gun system at Sea Air Space 2025. The company is pitching it to the US Navy to protect surface combatants and non-combatant ships against air threats.=====================The Bofors 40Mk4 is a compact and lightweight naval gun system designed for anti-aircraft and anti-surface warfare operations. It can switch seamlessly among ammunition types, which delivers versatile targeting of air, land, and sea-based threats. The programmable 40 mm Bofors 3P ammunition provides the naval gun system with the highest possible combat flexibility, as it can be programmed in six different function modes to provide optimized effect. The proven 40 mm gun, together with the latest in munitions technology, forms a platform ready to meet both the expected – and the unexpected.Brazil and Japan were the first two export customers of this gun system produced in Sweden. The Swedish Navy placed an order in 2019. The 40Mk4 will be the secondary gun aboard the Royal Navy’s Type 31 frigate. It was also selected by the Finnish Navy for the Hamina-class upgrade program, by Beligum and the Netherlands for their future MCM vessels and recently by Colombia for the PES frigate.
